Died: June 28, 2008

Ruby Kate Smelcer Hensley, 77, of Midway, died late Saturday night at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hensley was a homemaker.

She was a member of The Lord's Tabernacle Church and had also attended Midway United Methodist Church.

The family stated, "She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her."

Mrs. Hensley was the widow of Robert O. Hensley Sr., her husband of 49 years who died Aug. 19, 1997.

She is survived by seven sons and three daughters-in-law: Robert Hensley Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Chuckey, Donald W. Hensley, Randy A. Hensley, Michael and Connie Hensley, Ronnie and Nancy Hensley, John Hensley, and Timmy Hensley; two daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie and Robert Estepp, and April and Robert Frye; eight granddaughters; nine grandsons; several great-grandchildren; one brother: James Smelcer; one sister and brother-in-law: Edith and Russell Hensley; several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces: Brenda Chandler, and Linda Sharp; a number of cousins; and a special friend of the family: Donna Ellison.

Mrs. Hensley was a daughter of the late Will and Naomi Smelcer and was preceded in death by one grandson; one great-grandson; three brothers: Joe Smelcer, Jake Smelcer, and Raymond Smelcer; and five sisters: Anna Lou Garber, Willie Ruth Collins, Stella Lee Payne, Pauline Miller, and Stana Mae Waites.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Buster Shelton and the Rev. Jerry Holt will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 12:30 Tuesday afternoon in Mount Carmel UM Church Cemetery.

Family and friends will meet at 11:30 at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be B.J. Renner, T.J. Hensley, Donald Hensley Jr., Bill Woody Jr., David Anderson, Sam Jones, and George Payne.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chance Frye, Zachary Gray, Brandon Gray, Deborah Jones, Penny Johnson, and Stephen Hensley.
