Cleo Keys McClelland

Died: June 26, 2008

JOHNSON CITY -- Cleo Keys McClelland, age 91, died Thursday at Colonial Hill Retirement Center, where she had lived for 16 years.

Mrs. McClelland was born on March 12, 1917, near Limestone, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Julia Ann Sellers Keys. She was the second youngest of 13 children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R. E. (Gene) McClelland.

Mrs. McClelland graduated from Iowa City High School and attended Johnson City Business College.

She held various office positions until 1943, when, her family said, she became a dedicated mother and homemaker.

A family spokesman said that Mrs. McClelland enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and creating beautiful flower arrangements.

She was a longtime member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class there.

Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law: Bob and Anne McClelland of Kingsport, Lynn and Barbara McClelland of Revere, Mass., and Wayne and Peg McClelland of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; three grandsons: Alex McClelland, Hunter McClelland and Gavin McClelland; a sister: Dot Strong of Greeneville; a sister-in-law: Lillian Keys of Polson, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating her life will be held at Colonial Hill Retirement Center on Sunday at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends before and after the service.

A private graveside service will be held in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Those wishing to make a memorial gift are invited to make such a gift to the charity of their choice.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.wadugger.com. Woodall-Anderson & Dugger Funeral Home is coordinating arrangements.
