To mark the 37th anniversary of Earth Day, the Middle Nolichucky Watershed Alliance will be hosting a free “Earth Day Celebration” at Kinser Park on Saturday, April 21.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will continue to 1:30 p.m. in the park at pavilions 6 and 7 next to the caboose.
Participants are invited to “bring your sunscreen and join our naturalists as they birdwatch, learn about forests, wildlife, and aquatic habitats.” Most of the activities are geared for children.

“Earth Day is a day to help celebrate and do our part to help improve and protect our environment,” said Chris Livesay, an Alliance spokesperson.

Livesay said, “The Middle Nolichucky Watershed Alliance sponsors Earth Day to provide an enjoyable experience for the community and to promote local organizations in Greene County that are aimed to protect our natural resources.”

Trout Unlimited-Cherokee Chapter, TWRA, Partners of the Cherokee National Forests, the Greeneville chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society and the Clyde Austin 4-H Center and other organizations will take part.

Added Livesay, “This will also be your chance to learn a few simple ways to help make every day Earth Day!”

The Middle Nolichucky Watershed Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the water quality of the Nolichucky River through increasing public awareness about the sources of water pollution and the importance of each community member in protecting streams, rivers, and lakes.
