TC Volleyball Gets Win; Men's Soccer Ties

HICKORY, N.C.


The Tusculum College volleyball team defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday morning at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Tusculum won by scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-17.

The Pioneers (13-5, 4-2 SAC) were led by Katie Luebke with 12 kills and Kelsey Hayden and Carly Swisher with 10 kills each.

Tusculum's Peyton Colclough registered a match-high 36 assists and Erika Garcia added 11 digs.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday night when they host Brevard for a 7 p.m. SAC match at Pioneer Arena.

Tusculum's women's soccer team lost 1-0 on the road to Newberry on Saturday.

NC improves to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the league. Tusculum falls to 5-5-1, 2-2 in the SAC.

Tusculum is back in action on Tuesday night as the Pioneers travel over the mountain to face Mars Hill for a 7 p.m. league tilt.

NEWBERRRY, S.C. - No. 20 Tusculum College and Newberry College battled for 110 minutes before the two teams tied, 3-3, in a South Atlantic Conference men's soccer match.

Tusculum (9-1-1, 2-1-1 SAC) scored on a penalty kick by Scott Lucky, when Phillip Hagen scored off a corner kick from Lucky and when Bruno Conceicao chipped a shot over the keeper.

Tusculum keeper Lance Moore posted seven saves.

Tusculum returns to action Wednesday night at Mars Hill.

In its first dual match of the fall season, the Tusculum College women's tennis team defeated visiting Johnson C. Smith University 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

Tusculum (1-0) swept all three doubles matches, while getting singles points from Heidi von der Lage, Blake Thompson, Caroline Crowe, Jessi Smith and Kritsten Keefer.

The Tusculum College men's tennis team posted a 9-0 shutout over Johnson C. Smith.

The Pioneers (2-0) won in straight sets in all of its singles matches. Tusculum got singles wins from Thomas Rees, Henrique Rodrigues, Thomas Clayton, Thomas Kiser, Leo Guaycurus and Hunter Beal.
