Smokies Stymied By Braves Pitching, Lose 2-0

SEVIERVILLE -- Coined "Braves Night" at Smokies Park, the outcome of Thursday night's game between the Mississippi Braves and Tennessee Smokies played out much the same, with the Smokies falling to the M-Braves, 2-0. A crowd of 5,613 came out to the game, which included a special guest appearance by former Atlanta great Dale Murphy.

Hung-Wen Chen threw well for the Smokies in Thursday night's loss. The Taiwan native kept the M-Braves scoreless through the first four innings, eventually leaving after 99 pitches thrown in 6.2 innings. A Travis Jones RBI-double in the fifth and a sacrifice fly by J.C. Boscan in the sixth would be the only blemishes on an otherwise solid night for Chen. He would fall to 5-8 on the year.

The problem for Tennessee though was that Chen was going up against Mississippi starter Jeff Lyman. Lyman (5-6) threw seven shutout innings to get the win, allowing only five hits and two walks. He struck out six hitters in his 96-pitch effort.
