The Chuckey-Doak Lady Black Knights soccer team opened the 2010 home campaign with a 3-0 shutout victory over J. Frank White Academy on Tuesday.
The Lady Black Knights notched two goals in the first half and one in the second to seal the win.
The first goal of the night came in the 16th minute when senior Olivia Kalous captured a bobbling ball in the box and placed it in the lower corner for her first goal of the season.
Ten minutes later, Svenja Heirmann lofted a corner into the box that Melinda Bowman volleyed into the net for the 2-0 lead.
Bowman got an assist in the second half, when she carried the ball out wide and sent a cross over the keeper where freshman Katie Bishop stood waiting to notch her first career high school goal.
Earning the shutout were goalkeeper Katie Sherwood with six saves and the defensive back line of Emilee Frazier, Courtney Knight, Denise Laws, Hannah Riddle and Christian Ward.
The Lady Black Knights are home Thursday for a 6 p.m. kickoff with Jefferson County.
This past weekend the Lady Black Knights participated in the Union County Memorial Tournament. The Lady Knights lost to Knox Central, tied Knox Gibbs, them lost a heartbreaker on a last second goal to Grainger. Bowman got two goals in the tourney and Ward was named to the all-tournament team.
