Higher Seeds All Advance In Elementary Tournament

All the higher-seeded teams survived the opening round of the Greene County Elementary Basketball Tournament on Saturday at North Greene.

Ottway, DeBusk and Baileyton all survived in girls' action while Ottway's, Nolachuckey's and West Pines' boys all advanced to the next round.

The tournament continues tonight with quarterfinal action. The semifinals are set for Thursday with the consolation and finals on Friday.

LADY EAGLES WIN

Ottway's Lady Eagles held on for a 29-24 win over Glenwood. Ottway led 21-10 at halftime. It was a low-scoring third where the Lady Chiefs took scoring honors 2-1. Glenwood scored a dozen in the fourth, but that wasn't enough for a comeback.

McKenzie Reynolds scored 10 to lead Ottway. Curiesha Ford and Amber Jones had eight each for the Lady Chiefs.

Glenwood (24): Ricker 1, Jones 8, Renner 2, Jaynes 5, Ford 8.

Ottway (29): Navarro 3, Palmer 4, McKenzie Reynolds 10, Nelson 6, Foster 6.

Ottway 9 12 1 7 -- 29

EAGLES ADVANCE

Ottway downed Camp Creek 36-9 in the boys' play-in game. The Eagles were up 18-2 at halftime.

Tyler Black led Ottway in scoring with 19.

Camp Creek (9): Franklin 2, Dunbar 1, Laners 2, Gilliam 2, Effler 2.

Ottway (36): Harmon 6, Buchanan 3, Eidson 2, A.Weems 2, Tyler Black 10, Johnson 4, Willett 2, J.Weems 7.

LADY BRAVES ROLL

DeBusk's girls rolled to a 43-23 win over West Pines. They jumped to a big lead in the first half, up 23-13 at the break, and never looked back.

Ashton Wykle paced DeBusk with 23 points. Lorena Leon scored 10. For West Pines, Lauren Baxter scored nine points.

West Pines (23): Harmon 6, Dykes 4, Bowser 4, Baxter 9.

DeBusk (43): Mercer 4, S.Leon 2, Lorena Leon 10, Ashton Wykle 23, Bolinger 4.

West Pines 5 8 6 4 -- 23

DeBusk 17 6 14 6 -- 43

BLAZERS WIN

Nolachuckey eliminated Glenwood 49-30, scoring double figures in every quarter. It wasn't decided until the second half though. The Blazers held a 26-22 lead at the break, but the Chiefs couldn't maintain pace in the third and fourth.

Cody Robinson scored 17 for the Blazers. Hunter Waddell added 11. Trey Brown paced Glenwood with 11 points.

Glenwood (30): Trey Brown 11, Crum 8, Waddell 2, Shaw 9.

Nolachuckey (49): Hunter Waddell 11, Cody Robinson 17, Fillers 7, Neas 6, York 8.

Nolachuckey 15 11 13 10 -- 49

LADY DRAGONS DOMINATE

Baileyton's girls knocked out McDonald 33-13, keeping the Lady Hornets scoreless the entire second half.

Mendy McNeese fueled Baileyton's win with 20 points.

McDonald (13): Cheek 2, Long 4, Voiles 4, Jarrell 1, Hensley 2.

Baileyton (33): Ma.McNeese 2, Penley 3, Rhodes 6, Sensabaugh 2, Mendy McNeese 20.

Baileyton 11 5 11 6 -- 33

PANTHERS WIN

West Pines' boys won and advanced with a 26-8 win over McDonald. The Panthers led 7-4 at the end of the first quarter, but took over and weren't threatened again.

Brett Bolton led West Pines with 10 points.

McDonald (8): Lambert 4, Jones 2, Lawson 2.

West Pines (26): Brett Bolton 10, Burke 4, Weems 3, Potter 7, Martin 2.
