MORRISTOWN -- The Greeneville Middle School boys advanced while the GMS girls were eliminated in first round games of the Middle-8 Conference Basketball Tournament held Thursday night at West View Middle School.
The GMS boys defeated Rutledge 49-37 to move on to the semifinals, where they will take on Maury tonight at 8 p.m. The tourney finals are slated for Monday.
Trevor Wright scored 15, Zack Finchum 12 and Hayes Culbreth eight for the GMS boys, who led 20-12 at intermission and improved the advantage to 36-23 after three quarters. Brandon Davis with 11 and Lance Morton with 10 led Rutledge.
The GMS girls came out on the short end of a 43-35 decision to East Ridge. Taylor Church led GMS with 11 points, Madison Shipley scored nine and Jordan Fortel added eight.
