Buffs Fall In BRAC Opener; Black Knights Win

CUMBERLAND GAP -- West Greene traveled here for the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference opener against the Cumberland Gap Panthers and came out on the short end of a 7-1 score Monday afternoon.

The two teams meet again today at Hal "Buddy" Pruitt Field at West Greene. The conference elected to play league games back-to-back on Mondays and Tuesdays this season.

Errors and missed opportunities haunted the Buffs, who left two runners stranded in each of the first two innings.

Cumberland Gap scored three times in the second inning which proved to be enough ammunition to get the BRAC win. Baushcum, Guy and Laurens had two hits each for the Panthers.

West Greene got two hits each from Zack McCamey and Taylor McAmis, while Tyler Kelley lined out a double. Each team had nine hits in the contest.

KNIGHTS TOP UNAKA

Chuckey-Doak's Tyler Feezell hurled a one-hitter over five innings and the Black Knights opened the season with a 6-2 win over visiting Unaka Monday afternoon as the 2010 baseball season got under way.

The Black Knights pushed across four runs in the second inning and that proved to be enough cushion to get past the Rangers.

The Knights slugged three home runs as Heath Feezell, Justin Tarlton and Ryan Shaheen each connected with season-opening dingers.

Shaheen collected a double to go along with his homer and knocked in three runs. Heath Feezell's homer came on the first pitch he saw in high school baseball.

The Black Knights play at Morristown East Thursday afternoon.
