Buffs Drop Road Pair At Cumberland Gap

CUMBERLAND GAP -- West Greene dropped a pair of Blue Ridge Conference games in a visit to Cumberland Gap Tuesday night.

The Lady Buffs came out on the short end of a 71-58 score, while the West Greene boys battled hard before losing 67-62 in overtime.

The Lady Buffs had a bad second quarter, falling behind the Panthers 32-21 at intermission. They matched the Panthers goal-for-goal in the second half but could not overcome the first half deficit.

McFall scored 22 and Graves 20 for the Panthers (14-8, 6-3). West Greene (4-16, 1-8) got 13 points and eight assists from Korey Mathes, 12 points from Victoria Franklin and 11 points from Alison Brooks.

The boys' game was tight the entire way. It was deadlocked at 11 after a quarter, then Cumberland Gap inched ahead 28-21 by the break.

The Buffs rallied with 17 in the third and 18 in the fourth to send the game into overtime.

Missed free throws were costly for West Greene. The Buffs hit only 9-of-25 at the line.

Zach McCamey scored 13 to lead West Greene. Corey Ramsey had 11.

Cumberland Gap had four players in double figures, led by 19 from Trey Minton. Timmy Ayers had 15.
