Greeneville police are investigating a robbery Wednesday night of a McDonald's restaurant employee.

The employee reportedly was robbed of an undetermined amount of money while attempting to make a night deposit at an East Andrew Johnson Highway branch bank.

A report filed by GPD Officer Eddie Short said the robbery was reported about 7:16 p.m. and that he reached the Bank of America branch on the East Andrew Johnson Highway five minutes later.

Officer Short reported that when he arrived, he found a woman who identified herself as an employee of the Austin Street McDonald's seated in a white Pontiac sedan that was parked at the bank's night-deposit box.

Short's report described the victim as "upset" and "shaken."

The report also quoted the victim as having told police that she had rolled down the window of her car in preparation for making a night deposit and was searching for her deposit-box key when a man wearing "a large orange coat, a dark-colored hat" and glasses that may have been tinted ran up, screamed "give me the money" and pointed a chrome-plated handgun at her face.

After the McDonald's employee complied with the robber's orders, according to the report, the suspect fled on foot toward the former Capri Theater.

No injuries were reported.

GPD officers and sheriff's deputies searched the area around the bank and the theater but were unable to find the suspect.

The investigation is continuing.
