Mary Katheryn Christian, a resident of the Midway community, was charged early this morning with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault, DUI and leaving the scene of an accident in which there were injuries.
Arrest warrants filed by Deputy Sheriff Howard Gale said that shortly before midnight Wednesday he had been dispatched to a report of an aggravated assault at a Bright Hope Road residence.
While en route to that location, according to arrest warrants, Gale was notified that a person who had fled the scene of the aggravated assault was believed to be involved in an accident with injuries on Warrensburg Road.
On arrival at the accident scene about a half-mile west of Old Kentucky Road South, according to an arrest warrant, Deputy Gale found that a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer had left the road and struck a utility pole head-on.
An accident report and arrest warrants identified the driver as Mary Katheryn Christian, 26, of 248 Midway Road. It said she had fled the scene before officers arrived.
Christian, who had been injured in the crash, was found at a nearby residence and was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and violating the implied-consent law.
She, and her passengers James King, 33, of Peppermint Lane, and Elvis Kelley, 52, of N. Hardin Street, Greeneville, were taken by Greeneville-Greene County Emergency Medical Services ambulances to Takoma Regional Hospital for treatment.
Christian, according to warrants, also was charged with aggravated assault and possessing a handgun while intoxicated in connection with the earlier incident at a Bright Hope Road residence.
A witness who had been visiting the Bright Hope Road residence told officers that Christian had pointed a "big black handgun" at her and threatened her.
An arrest warrant filed by Deputy Gale said other people present at the Bright Hope Road residence had "tackled" Christian, prompting her to flee the house with the handgun.
A Hi-Point .45-cal. handgun was found at the scene of the traffic accident on Warrensburg Road in which Christian was involved, according to an arrest warrant.
Bond for Christian was set at $14,000. She was scheduled to appear on Friday in General Sessions Court.
