Big Band Ensemble

In Free Concert At

NPAC On Nov. 2

The Jazz Ambassadors, the U.S. Army's premier touring big band, is coming to Greeneville for a free concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.

The event is being sponsored by The Greeneville Sun and NPAC.

The concert is free, and the sponsors are hoping that those in attendance will bring canned goods and/or staples for the Food Bank. Containers will be in the lobby for collection.

There are a few tickets remaining in the balcony. They may be picked up at the NPAC box office between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Those attending must be in their seats by 6:40 p.m., with unfilled seats to be given to non-ticketholders at 6:45 p.m.

The 19-member Jazz Ambassadors ensemble, formed in 1969, has received great acclaim both at home and abroad in performing America's original art form, jazz.

The band has appeared in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, and throughout Europe.

The United States Congress has proclaimed jazz "a national treasure."

Many members of the group are graduates of the nation's most prestigious music institutions and have played individually with the likes of Harry Connick Jr., Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck and the Count Basie Orchestra.

Wherever they travel, the Jazz Ambassadors proudly carry the message of patriotism and goodwill to audiences worldwide.

Chief Warrant Officer Gordon K. Kippola is director of the Jazz Ambassadors.

Master Sergeant Marva J. Lewis is the ensemble's vocalist.
