A reception for the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Rusty Hunter Christian, the Greeneville soldier who was killed in Afghanistan on Jan. 28 will be held on Saturday at the MeadowView Conference Center in Kingsport, at 5 p.m., according to the Web site of Kingsport's Carter-Trent Funeral Home.
Christian, a 2004 Greeneville High School graduate, was a U.S. Army Green Beret who was killed in an improvised explosive device blast.
Remembrances of Staff Sgt. Christian will be offered by members of his military unit starting at 6 p.m. That will be followed by a song and eulogy by his brother, Michael Aaron Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Amber Walker Christian; his daughter, Taylor Christian, and son, Gavin Christian, all of the home; parents, Jim and Donna Morelock Ball, of Kingsport; father, Michael Christian of Mountain City; brother, Aaron Christian and wife, Danielle, of Gray; grandparents, J.D. and Joan Ball of Kingsport; favorite aunt, Debra Culbertson; and two special cousins, Jeremy Culbertson and Laura Templeton.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. The date and time will be announced later.
