Firefighters from the United Volunteer Fire Department work to extinguish a Tuesday afternoon fire at the Ralph Harvey residence at 3150 Ottway Road. Brad Ball, the department's chief, said the fire appeared to have started in the living room area of the residence and was confined to one corner of the structure. No one was home when the fire broke out, Ball said.

An Ottway Road residence was damaged by a fire of undetermined origin on Tuesday afternoon.

Brad Ball, chief of the Baileyton-based United Volunteer Fire Department, said firefighters were dispatched by Greene County 911 at 1:19 p.m. Tuesday to the Ralph Harvey residence at 3150 Ottway Road.

Five fire trucks and 10 volunteer firefighters responded and extinguished the fire, which apparently began in, or near, a television in the living room of the structure.

Chief Ball said no one was home when the fire was discovered, although family members returned home while firefighting efforts were in progress.

Firefighters were able to confine damage to a corner of the living room, according to chief Ball, who said the rest of the structure sustained smoke damage.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, the chief said.

Also responding to the fire were Deputy Sheriff Charles Jessie, a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance, a disaster services unit from the Greene County Chapter of the American Red Cross and a Greeneville Light & Power System Crew, according to chief Ball.
