A resident of Madison County, N.C., was killed shortly before 4 p.m. Friday in an accident along N.C. Route 208 in nearby North Carolina.
Anthony Charles Case, 58, of 7895 Highway 208 in Madison County, was killed 1.1 mile south of the Greene County/Madison County line, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Shane Coggins..
(N.C. Route 208 is the Asheville Highway, on the North Carolina side of the N.C.-Tenn. state line.)
In an interview with The Greeneville Sun on Friday night, Trooper Coggins said Case was riding an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) when he came out of a driveway along a straight stretch of Highway 208, turned left, and headed north, toward Greene County.
But then his ATV veered off the road, went onto an embankment, and "fell against" a passing truck, Trooper Coggins said.
The trooper said the truck driver was not at fault and was not injured.
Highway 208 was closed for awhile after the fatal accident, which Trooper Coggins said was reported at 3:53 p.m. Friday.
