The Mosheim School Junior Beta Club is asking the public to join its members in taking part in "Operation Life-Saver," a community-oriented project to purchase smoke alarms for those who need them but cannot afford to buy them.

"Operation Life-Saver is a chance to provide needy homes with smoke detectors," Mosheim Principal Yhona Jones said.

"Having spoken to many individuals that have a background in fire prevention, we realize there is an immediate need for smoke detectors in Greene County homes."

Jones said, "We want to help our community be safe, and we know you feel the same way. Our request is for you to become our partner in helping the citizens of Greene County who cannot afford to purchase a smoke detector for their homes."

Anyone who wishes to donate money toward the purchase of smoke detectors is asked to visit the Volunteer Fire Department in their area between 8 a.m. and noon this Saturday, Oct. 10, and make a financial contribution to a Beta Club representative.

"On Saturday, we will have Junior Beta Club members located at each of the 15 fire departments in Greene County," Principal Jones said.

"They will take your donation and provide a receipt at that time. If this isn't convenient for you, please mail a check for the donated amount to Attention Jan Bible, Mosheim Junior Beta Club, 297 West School St., Mosheim, TN 37818, by Oct. 19.

"If you prefer, our club will also make arrangements to pick up your donation. Please call Mosheim School at 422-6470 and ask for Jan Bible if you need this service."

With the donations, Jones said, the Junior Beta Club expects to be able to purchase the smoke detectors and deliver them to the county volunteer fire departments that are specified by contributors, Jones said.

"Then, upon the request of the homes who need one, the fire departments will install them free of charge," she added.
