Greeneville Mayor Laraine King has filed to seek reelection in the June 1 municipal election.
Mayor King's filing sets up a race between herself and Alderman W.T. Daniels, who also has filed to run for mayor in the June 1 non-partisan election.
The deadline for filing to run in the June 1 election was noon today.
King, of 303 N. Main St., was elected as Greeneville's first female mayor in June 2008.
At the time of her election to Greeneville's highest governmental office, King had served as alderman in Greeneville's First Ward since 2003.
She also served on the Greene County Commission from 1990 to 1994.
King is a retired business-owner, having worked in retail and restaurant management.
She is a ruling elder of First Presbyterian Church of Greeneville, and is former president of the Greene County Democratic Women's Club.
The municipal election is non-partisan and does not involve a party primary.
King and her husband, Greeneville attorney Kidwell King, have two grown children, Amanda and Kyle.
Repeated attempts to reach King for comment this morning were unsuccessful.
