A Greeneville man drowned Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson County's Douglas Lake.

Jack Price, 48, who was the meat manager at the Ingles supermarket on Asheville Highway, drowned while swimming.

The Jefferson County Rescue Squad recovered his body.

Ingles employees said this morning they were informed Price was swimming without a life preserver when a thunderstorm struck, blowing a pontoon boat that he had been on away from him while he was swimming.

They said a companion who also was in the water but was wearing a life preserver was rescued.

A third Greeneville man had remained on the pontoon boat.
