An armed robbery occurred early this morning at the Kwik Stop No. 5 market at the corner of the West Andrew Johnson Highway and Rogersville Road (Tennessee Highway 70 North).
Greeneville police are investigating.
One of two clerks told officers that a man wearing a brown hat pulled low over his face and a black T-shirt beneath a blue-checked shirt had demanded "all the money" from the cash register, according to police report.
The suspect tried to obscure his face by partially pulling the black T-shirt he was wearing over the lower portion of his face, officers said.
The report said the robber, described by various witnesses as in his 30s to his 50s, and having brown hair and a mustache, replied "yeah," when asked by the clerk if he were serious about robbing the store.
Another witness to the 1:51 a.m. incident said the robber was possibly also wearing a camouflage jacket.
According to the report, the robber displayed a small knife that appeared to be a pocket knife after the clerk pushed the store's "panic alarm."
The clerk gave the robber an undetermined amount of cash from the store's cash register. The robber then fled in a maroon-colored car driven by another person.
The car, according to one witness, may have been an older-model Oldsmobile.
Witnesses also gave police a license-plate number.
Officers said they are unsure whether the driver of the maroon car in which the suspect fled was a man or a woman.
The suspects had not been located as of this morning.
2ND ROBBERY THIS YEAR
This morning's armed robbery was the second so far this year of a Greeneville convenience store.
The suspects in both cases were armed with knives, although their descriptions varied.
The first took place on Jan. 12 at the Quick Stop No. 10 market at 301 Asheville Highway.
The clerk on duty there told police she had been robbed at knifepoint a short time earlier by a masked man who appeared to be in his early 20s.
The report said the clerk told police the suspect was about 5-feet-8 inches tall, had a slender build, was dressed in a light blue "hoodie" jacket and blue jeans and had his face covered with a dark blue bandana.
The robber entered the store with a knife in his right hand and demanded "all the money inside the cash register," according to the report.
After the clerk gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money from the register, the report said, he shoved the clerk behind the counter and fled through the front door.
