A Jonesborough woman died Thursday afternoon as the result of a two-car accident on U.S. 11E in Washington County, the Washington County Sheriff's Department has reported.
Julie A. Phillips, 36, of 2187 Old Stagecoach Road, Jonesborough, died as the result of injuries she sustained in the crash that also involved a car driven by Mary White, 44, of 333 Rauhof Road, Telford.
According to Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal, Washington County deputies responded to a vehicle crash on 11E at the intersection with Leesburg Road at approximately 3:09 p.m.
A press release from the department said a white 2006 Saturn driven by Phillips was making a left-hand turn from the eastbound lane of U.S. 11E on to Leesburg Road when she pulled into the path of a 2003 red Dodge Neon driven by White.
After colliding, both vehicles traveled off the highway and down a steep embankment.
The release said that Phillips was transported by Wings Air Rescue to the Holston Valley Medical Center, where she later died from injuries suffered in the crash.
White and a passenger in her car, John White, 70, also of 333 Rauhof Road in Telford, were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center.
A Johnson City Press report identified John White as the father of Mary White.
They were admitted to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the Washington County report said.
Investigation of the accident is being conducted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office Crash Team.
