The Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society hosted its annual "Howl-O-Ween" festivities on Saturday afternoon at the Animal Adoption Center on Hal Henard Road.
About $1,100 was raised from the event, according to Todd DeHaven, the Humane Society's president.
Proceeds from the annual Howl-O-Ween event benefits the local Humane Society and its work in Greene County.
On Saturday morning light rain fell throughout the region, but by noon, the rain had ceased, giving way to cloudy, but dry conditions for the afternoon event.
Among the featured activities at the festivities was the popular pet costume contest, which attracted 44 entries.
Among the contestants was Bodie, an English bulldog owned by Chris and Carrie Tucker and their son, Elliott, 3, of Greeneville.
Bodie will be making his national television debut on Sunday, Nov. 30, when he will appear on the ABC television program, "America's Funniest Home Videos" on Sunday, Nov. 30.
Although the Tuckers cannot yet say if Bodie's video won, they were able to reveal that he was among the final contestants.
On Saturday, Bodie was dressed as "a saloon girl," complete with a frilly dress and a curly wig. Although Bodie didn't win first place at the local contest, his fans in Greeneville are certainly pulling for him in his television event.
The first-place winner of the pet costume contest went to Jessica Archer and her family of five adorable Chihuahuas, which were each dressed as a cast member from "The Wizard of Oz."
The father of the pack, Aspen, was dressed as the Tin Man and the mother, Aurora, portrayed the Wicked Witch.
Their offspring, Boston, Bronxi and Brookln, were dressed as the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and Dorothy, respectively.
Archer said the pups were born in South Korea last year while she was working as an English teacher there. She is now back in her native Greeneville.
The second-place winner of the pet costume contest was Jayce McCoy, 9, who was dressed as a spider's web and her dog Cindy, dressed as a spider.
Jayce is the daughter of Kent and Nikki McCoy and is a fourth grade student at Mosheim Elementary School. She and Cindy Lou took first-place honors in the pet costume contest last year as a cave girl and a cave dog.
Mr. McCoy said Cindy Lou was adopted from the local pet shelter several years ago.
"She's been a very good dog," he said.
Third-place honors in the contest were awarded to Danyell Lewis, 6, and her dog, Baby Lou Lou. Danyell is a student at Chuckey Elementary School. Both she and her dachshund pup, were dressed for the contest as very cute pumpkins.
While the majority of entries in the pet costume contest were dogs, a couple of cats were also entered.
First-place honors were presented to Kaye Shipley and her yellow tabby cat, Tom, who was dressed as "King Cat."
Second place was awarded to Ashlynn Keasling and her sweet kitten, Sam Boy, who was dressed as a pumpkin.
