Greeneville Mayor Laraine King spoke about "hopeful possibilities" for new jobs at the Tuesday meeting of the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
In her "mayor comments" portion of the agenda, King said she has been working recently on job retention and "hopefully creation of new jobs."
She did not give any details about the types of jobs but said decisions likely will be made within the next few weeks, and more information will be provided at that time.
In a brief interview after the meeting, King said she has been working with the Greene County Partnership and state officials.
She said she has been working on one opportunity since November, and state officials became involved two weeks ago.
She last met with officials on Thursday and Friday of last week, she said.
"We have some hopeful possibilities," she commented during the meeting.
ANNEXATION HEARING SET
The town board approved a resolution scheduling a public hearing related to the annexation of the Scott A. Wills property at 2040 Buckingham Rd.
The hearing will be held during the board's April 6 meeting.
Wills requested the annexation to allow his children to attend city schools and to benefit from city services.
The Plan of Services related to his request was approved earlier this month by the Greeneville Regional Planning Commission, with no opposition at that meeting.
FIRE DEPT. PROMOTION
The board also approved two personnel items in the Greeneville Fire Department:
* the conditional promotion of Lt. Owen Freeman to the position of captain; and
* a conditional offer of employment to Mark Copas for the position of entry-level firefighter.
Both Freeman and Copas had been certified by the Greeneville Civil Service Board as the next qualified names ranked on the rosters for the two positions.
Mayor King noted that Fire Chief Mark Foulks had recommended Freeman and Copas.
Also, the town board appointed Leonard Price to the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center Advisory Board.
Glenda Blazer, the center's director, told the board that Leonard had served on the advisory board for the Tennessee Commission on Aging.
The board also approved the reappointments of Wanda Goodman, Thanna S. Hankins and Lucille Pless to Roby Center's board.
