This building in Midway, believed to be at least 150 years old, was torn down Friday, primarily out of safety concerns, according to Elizabeth Williamson, the building's owner. She said her father, Kenneth Hogan, who died on March 8, had lived in the building for about 45 years. The building was on Railroad Street about 20 feet from the railroad tracks and was once Midway's train depot and post office, with its upstairs being used by the Junior Order Hall, a men's organization that held meetings and oyster suppers there. Mrs. Williamson said the building was very sturdily built, having been held together by wooden pegs and not nails, and that it took more than three hours for family members and members of the Midway Volunteer Fire Department to tear the structure down. The building material was then burned.
