The Greeneville Water Department has been recognized for the taste of its water.
The Region 1 Tennessee Association of Utility Districts held its fourth annual "Best Tasting Water Contest" on April 15 at the Comfort Inn of Greeneville.
The meeting was hosted by W&W Engineering, LLC of Greeneville and WASCON, Inc. of Livingston.
All utilities in the eight-county region in East Tennessee were invited to submit a sample of the water treated by their systems.
Several utilities in East Tennessee entered their water in the contest, and Greeneville was the winner.
In addition to taste, the water was judged on smell and clarity.
Greeneville's water will now be entered in the state contest this summer at the Tennessee Association of Utility District meeting.
Greeneville's water treatment plant treats water withdrawn from the Nolichucky River.
The plant serves not only the corporate limits of Greeneville but also provides water to the following utility districts: Chuckey, Cross Anchor, Glen Hills and Old Knoxville Highway Water, and the Town of Mosheim Water System.
Greeneville Mayor Laraine King, Water Superintendent Laura White, David Ricker, chief operator of the Greeneville Water Plant, and other employees of the Greeneville Water Department were present to receive the award.
