Customers of the Greeneville Light & Power System will receive a 4 percent decrease in their bills beginning this month, according to Bill Carroll, GL&PS general manager.
Carroll announced Wednesday that the Tennessee Valley Authority, which supplies power to GL&PS, has reduced its rates by 4 percent, effective Wednesday, July 1.
The local utility will pass this 4 percent decrease along to its customers, Carroll said.
For example, a monthly bill of $100 will be decreased to $96.
The rate decrease, related to TVA's fuel-cost adjuster, is the third consecutive quarterly rate decrease by TVA, Carroll said.
This latest adjustment brings TVA's rates back to the level they were at before a 20 percent rate increase in October 2008, according to Carroll.
Since that time, TVA's previous rate decreases were 6 percent on Jan. 1, and 7 percent on April 1.
