Several people, including Greeneville High School's quarterback, were charged with DUI over the weekend.
Jordan Ryan Greenway, 18, of 300 Colonial Circle, was charged after an 8:39 p.m. Saturday traffic accident in which he lost control of his motorcycle in the 300 block of East Church Street, according to a report and arrest warrant filed by GPD Lt. Mike Crum.
Greenway, the starting quarterback of the Greeneville High School football team, was transported by a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Takoma Regional Hospital, according to a police report.
The report said he was treated for injuries and released from the hospital.
The report said Greenway had lost control of a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle while negotiating a curve.
The motorcycle had struck a curb, causing Greenway to "lay it down," according to the report.
When Lt. Crum reached the accident, according to the arrest warrant, he found Greenway lying on the ground beside the overturned motorcycle.
While speaking with Greenway, the report said, Lt. Crum allegedly noticed the odor of alcohol.
Greenway was released from custody after a $1,000 bond was posted on his behalf pending an initial appearance on the DUI charge in General Sessions Court today.
Others Charged
A number of other area residents also were charged by city and county officers over the weekend with DUI. Among them were:
* Caitlin Smith, 22, of Arlington, Va., who was charged with DUI and violating the implied consent law by Greeneville police after a traffic crash on Old Tusculum Road about 6:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
Bond for Smith was set at $2,000. She was scheduled to appear today in General Sessions Court.
* Kevin Foulks, 28, of 111 Old Wilson Hill Road, was charged with DUI (2nd offense) and violating the implied consent law Oct. 25 by Deputy Sheriff Ricky Graham after a traffic stop at the Whisper Oaks Apartments for failing to use a turn signal.
Bond for Foulks was set at $3,000. He was scheduled to appear today in General Sessions Court.
* Brady Thompson, 30, of 1470 Quillen Shell Road, was charged with DUI Oct. 26 by Deputy Sheriff Kevin Guinn after a traffic accident on Quillen Shell Road.
Bond for Thompson was set at $1,000. He was scheduled to appear today in General Sessions Court.
* Carey McMahan, 38, of 200 N. Hardin Street, was charged with DUI (3rd offense), violating the ignition interlock device law and violating the implied consent law by Deputy Sheriff Ricky Graham on Oct. 25.
Arrest warrants indicated that McMahan had been ordered earlier, as a result of previous DUI convictions to drive only vehicles equipped with an ignition interlock device. The vehicle he was driving on Oct. 25 was not equipped with an ignition interlock device, according to an arrest warrant.
Bond for McMahan was set at $5,000. He was scheduled to appear today in General Sessions Court.
