A fire at about 12:30 p.m. Monday destroyed the residence of Daryl and Janie Renfro on Fish Pond Road, at the eastern tip of the county. The Renfros own and operate D&J Tires & More, 6256 Erwin Hwy. Daryl Renfro told Greene County Deputy John Stills that he was at work when he was told of the fire, and no one was at home. According to Stills' report, Renfro said he had smelled something burning at about 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, but could find no fire. The Nolichucky and Tusculum volunteer fire departments responded and contained the blaze. The home was not insured.
