The Greeneville-Greene County Senior Resource Network will have information booths about elder abuse set up tomorrow, from noon to 5 p.m., at Walmart and Kmart.
The event is being held in conjunction with "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day."
The purpose of this day is to alert the public that elder abuse is a crime which, by law, must be reported, organizers say.
The group is also hoping to promote a better understand of abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults.
Nearly 9,500 reports of adult abuse, neglect and/or financial exploitation were reported last year in Tennessee, organizers say.
In about 90 percent of cases, the perpetrator of the abuse was by a spouse or adult child of the victim.
To report suspected abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult, call Adult Protective Services toll-free at 1-888-APS-TENN.
