A collision Wednesday evening between a pickup truck and a horse on Horton Highway injured the horse's 17-year-old rider and required the injured horse "to be put down."

Trooper David Good, who investigated the 6:45 p.m. accident about a dozen a miles north of Baileyton, said it occurred when a northbound Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Danny Dingus,, 44, of Nelse Roberts Road, Chuckey, struck a horse that was being ridden near the center line of the road.

The collision injured both the rider and the horse. The horse had to be "put down," according to Trooper Good.

The injured rider, whose name Trooper Good declined to release because of his juvenile status, was taken by ambulance to the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport for treatment of what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Dingus, the pickup truck's driver was not injured, the trooper said.
