For Greeneville's
Event At 2 P.M.
The 2009 Christmas season will be ushered in on Sunday afternoon with Christmas parades in Greeneville and Bulls Gap.
Both holiday parades are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.
More than 130 entries have registered for the 2009 Greeneville Christmas Parade.
The parade will feature bands from each of the local high schools, as well as the Greeneville Middle School.
The parade is being coordinated by the Greene County Partnership and the Greeneville Exchange Clubs.
All parade entries must be registered at the Greene County Partnership by this Thursday, Dec. 3.
After registration forms are completed, permits to the parade area will be issued. Participants must have the permit in order to enter the staging area on Bohannon Avenue the day of the parade.
All floats entering the competition will be judged prior to the parade. They should arrive at the parade area by 12:30 p.m. Judging will be held promptly at 1 p.m.
Categories for competition include commercial floats, civic/school organization floats and church floats.
Prizes of $100, $50 and $25 will be awarded in each division to the units judged first, second and third in overall appearance.
Winning float entries will be expected to provide individuals to carry the winning banners in the parade.
Exchange Club representatives will collect the banners at Greeneville High School after the parade and present prize money to the winning entries.
Line-up for all other participants in the parade will begin at 1 p.m. All feeder streets to Bohannon will be blocked with the exception of the intersection of Industrial Road and the 11E Bypass, which will be the only entrance for all participants.
PARADE ROUTE
The parade will advance from Bohannon to Main Street, turning left on McKee Street. From McKee, the parade will turn left onto College Street and proceed to Greeneville High School where it will disperse.
All parade participants are reminded that no one in the parade will be allowed to throw candy or other items into the crowd. Those who choose to distribute these items must do so through individuals handing the items to the crowd as they walk along the parade route.
All entries in the parade should be decorated using the parade theme, "A Story Book Christmas," and no entries can feature Santa Claus.
There will only be one Santa in the parade -- the Santa on the fire truck at the end of the parade.

BULLS GAP PARADE
The 2009 Bulls Gap Christmas Parade will begin at Bulls Gap School and will follow its traditional route along North Main Street (Tennessee Highway 66) to U.S. Highway 11E where it will turn right, travel about one-quarter mile, then turn right onto St. Clair Road before returning to the school, according to Bulls Gap Recorder Lorraine Heck.
The parade will feature a number of floats, a host of fire trucks from area volunteer fire departments and Santa, who will arrive aboard a fire truck.
