A suspicious fire destroyed a mobile home located on Midway Circle in Midway early Sunday, according to the Greene County Sheriff's Department. No injuries were reported.

A report filed by Deputy Sheriff Mike Shipley about 2:05 a.m. Sunday, July 20, listed the fire as possibly caused by arson.

Sunday's fire was the fourth in the Midway community in the last three months.

Shipley's report also indicated that the single-wide mobile home located at 290 Midway Circle was a "total loss."

The report said the 1972 single-wide mobile home was rented by David Stafford, 22, and owned by Darrell Powers, of Newport.

The mobile home was valued at $6,500, according to the report.

Sheriff's deputies, according to the report, had responded earlier to two burglaries at the mobile home and had been told someone had attempted to burn the structure before.

A possible suspect was named in the report.

"It was fully involved pretty quickly," Scott Allen, chief of the Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department said. "I could see the fire from my house when we were paged initially."

Firefighters were paged to the fire at 1:18 a.m. Sunday.

Chief Allen said firefighters were able to spray water directly into the interior the mobile home through holes that had burned in the ceiling and west wall. He said firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze using about 1,500 gallons of water.

But firefighters remained on the scene for about three hours battling hot spots in the ruins.

Five trucks and 22 firefighters from the Mosheim and Midway VFDs responded to the early morning blaze, according to Chief Allen.

The Sunday morning fire was the fourth in the Midway community in the last three months.
