CHATTANOOGA (AP) -- Volkswagen executives in Chattanooga say they are accepting applications for salaried positions and will start taking applications for hourly-paid production workers in late fall.

VW-Chattanooga human resources vice president Hans-Herbert Jagla (Yag-lah) said that about 100 salaried positions have been filled, from about 18,000 applications already received. There are about 400 more salaried jobs to be filled.

The Chattanooga plant is to start production in early 2011 and create about 2,000 jobs.

Jagla said VW will start hiring hourly-paid production workers early next year and he expects more than 100,000 applications. VW-Chattanooga spokewoman April Wortham said the automaker is not yet ready to reveal how much it will pay hourly workers.
