Linnie Greene
Leaves Her Studio
In Baltimore For
Retail Gallery Here
BY DOUGLAS WATSON
MANAGING EDITOR
On The Verge Gallery and the Linnie Art Photography business recently were opened here at 124 S. Main St. by Linnie Greene, an experienced professional photographer.
A native of North Carolina, Greene said, "I had a working studio in Baltimore and always longed to have a retail gallery space. The folks of Greeneville have made it possible for me to have my dream.
"I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and the generosity of Greenevillians. I am especially grateful to Mayor Laraine King and her husband, Kidwell, for their support."
On The Verge Gallery was given its name, Greene said, because she hopes her business will be part of attracting more downtown shopping in Greeneville, which she feels is "on the verge" of happening.
Greene continued in a prepared statement, "I played an integral part in making the 'Quilts of Greene County' exhibit happen at the Nathanael Greene Museum in October.
"I spent my first five months in Greeneville speaking with quilt- owners, styling and photographing their quilts in some of the most beautiful environments, and preparing the oral/photographic documentation of their history."
She added, "My photgraphic specialty is hand-tinted black-and- white photos. I have been featured in Arts and Antiques magazine and still show my work in several galleries in Baltimore.
"Arts and Antiques classifies my photos as fine art rather than photojournalism," she said.
OPEN HOUSE ON FRIDAY
On The Verge Gallery will be holding an open house this Friday, Dec. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Greene's hand-tinted black-and-white photos will be shown, and light refreshments will be served.

* the Franky B. Show, "a photographic extravaganza" of color photos, will be shown from Feb. 19 to March 26.
* Jane and Susan Voorhees, sisters from Asheville, will show watercolors and pastels throughout April.
The gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays; and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
